Tattoo Aftercare
1. Leave the derm on for 24-36 hours. Remove if it starts to leak, slide off or gets punctured.
2. DO NOT USE use in a pool or tub, as it may weaken the adhesive around the edge. DO NOT SUBMERGE your tattoo with or without the derm on.
3. Once you’re ready to remove the derm, we recommend taking a shower in case it gets messy. Grab it by the corner and pull parallel to the skin to allow air to get under the film. As air moves under the film it will release easier. If you pull the derm away from the skin it may break and you’ll have to try again. Let the ink and plasma run into the drain.
4. Make a lather in your hands with soap and warm water. NO washcloths, bath towels, loofas or sponges on a fresh tattoo. Gently clean the tattoo until all blood, ointment and plasma are removed. Rinse tattoo gently.
5. Pat dry with a paper towel then allow to fully air dry. DO NOT SCRUB.
6. IF THE SKIN IS CLOSED AND HEALING FAST If there is no longer any open wound, you can switch from the healing ointment to the fragrance free lotion of your choice, or cocoa butter. This will help with the dry skin itching. DO NOT PICK OR SCRATCH AT IT!
7. Wash it once a day with clean hands and keep it lightly moisturized to aid with flexibility as the fresh skin heals. Maintain the guidelines previously mentioned until it is fully healed.
8. You can apply new derm to the tattoo if you want added convenience. Make sure the skin is clean and fully dry before applying a new derm.
9. IF THE SKIN IS STILL OPEN Once the tattoo is dry, apply a very small amount of your ointment of choice (Some people use Aquaphor) into the tattoo. Take a bit and gently rub the ointment into the tattoo in a circular motion until there is an even amount across the surface. Dab any excess with a clean paper towel. Clean your tattoo this way once or twice a day in the shower for the first few days.
10. Some people will keep it wrapped so that it doesn’t dry and scab too much. Only use the ointment while there is an open wound healing, and once the skin is smooth and closed on the surface you can begin using the unscented lotion to help with the itching. Don’t use too much as it may cause the skin to break out, even outside the tattoo.
11. Your tattoo should be finished healing the outer dermis within a few days to a few weeks depending on the saturation of ink, location on the body and your experience knowing what method works best for healing tattoos on your body. Also, please keep in mind that if you get tattooed in an area for the first time you may experience different results than from a tattoo in a much different area.
12. DO NOT PICK or SCRATCH AT HEALING AREAS. Do your best to keep your tattoo covered when it’s not being cleaned during the first fews days and you can avoid heavy scabs.
1. Keep the bandage on for a minimum of 6 hours. We recommend keeping it on overnight provided the dressing feels comfortable and secure. Make sure your hands are clean before touching the tattooed skin. If the bandage sticks to the tattoo, wet it with lukewarm water and gently slide it off. DO NOT force it off or be rough with it.
