Piercing Aftercare

HEALING TIMES will vary based on the service provided.  Your piercer will provide you with your piercing healing time. ***ALWAYS wait 2 Months minimum before changing/replacing jewelry to ensure things are healing properly . Please contact your piercer for any assistance/information when it comes to your first change out.

  • Surface Piercings - Please use ONE of the 2 aftercare methods: Soap/Water or Spray

  1. Soap and Water  - Clean your piercing twice a day for the duration of the estimated healing time using warm water and fragrance free organic soap. Using sterile Q-Tips OR clean fingers, gently clean the foamy soap around the piercing, and rinse thoroughly with water.  OVER CLEANING your piercing will damage your skin and prolong the healing process.

  2. Spray  - Spray directly on your piercing 3-5 times per day and blot the surrounding area then let air dry.  DO NOT wash the product off.  Gently clean your piercing once per day in the shower, preferably, with warm water to remove any crust build up.

  • Oral Piercings - Using antimicrobial mouthwash rinse for about 30-60 seconds. We recommend any sort of gentle mouthwashes like Biotene, Listerine, Smart wash, etc.

    • Rise up to 5 times a day - including after meals and before bed.

    • Brush your teeth, tongue, and JEWELRY very gently to avoid plaque build up.

    • Smoking will slow down healing by restricting oxygen circulation in the blood and will slow down healing.

  • Eat slowly, take small bites, and be patient it won't be easy at first.

  • Great starter foods are smoothies, soups, ice chips, protein shakes, energy drinks, etc

  • Cold and frozen food will help minimize swelling and make it easier on you.

  • Avoid thicker foods like peanut butter, mashed potatoes, oatmeal etc. They will stick to your piercing and create discomfort.

  • Avoid spicy, acidic, hot, or salty foods, they may irritate or injure your healing piercing.

  • FOR TONGUE PIERCINGS - let your tongue rest as much as possible. This will help reduce the chance of irritation, swelling, or damage to your teeth. Including speaking, playing with jewelry, etc.

DO NOT DO:

  • Rotate jewelry - unless during cleaning with soapy warm water.

    • Rotating jewelry can cause trauma and irritation which will prolong healing.

  • Pets should be kept away from your fresh piercing especially while sleeping.

  • Disinfect objects that can come into contact with your piercing

    • Phones, Eyeglasses, Headphones, Etc

  • Skin/Hair Care products shouldnt be in contact with your fresh piercing.

  • Swimming/submerging for at least 6-8 weeks.

DO:

  • Wash your hands with antibacterial soap before and after handling jewelry and the surrounding areas.

    • PLEASE DO NOT TOUCH YOUR PIERCING WITH DIRTY HANDS

  • Change bedding/pillowcases and towels once a week.

  • Disinfect objects that can come into contact with your piercing

    • Phones, Eyeglasses, Headphones, Etc

DO  NOT USE THE FOLLOWING:

- Alcohol:  too strong, kills cells essential for healing and dries out skin.

- Hydrogen Peroxide:  also, too strong and dries out skin.

- Bactine:  numbing agents such as lidocaine can irritate your piercing and are not recommended for use on puncture wounds.

- Neosporin, Bacitracin and other Antibiotic Ointments:  always advisable against use on puncture wounds.  These petroleum-based products smother the piercing and prevent oxygen from reaching it.

- Dial or Antibacterial Soap:  also, too strong and dries out skin.  Use more gentle soaps such as Naked soap, Dove Unscented, Dr. Brauners, etc.
